About Eudora, Kansas

Eudora, Kansas is located in Douglas County and is situated along the banks of the Wakarusa and Kansas Rivers. The history of Eudora predates ¬†American Settlement. Eudora was inhabited for thousands of years by Indians, the most notable being the Kansas Tribe. In 1856 and agreement was reached with Shawnee Chief Paschal Fish who owned the majority of land in the area. The town was named Eudora in honor of Paschal Fish’s Daughter.

Today Eudora is mostly a “commuter” town with the majority of residents working in the larger cities of Kansas City, Lawrence, and Topeka. The 2010 census shows Eudora to have a population of 6,136.

Kansas State Highway 10 makes Eudora, Kansas an ideal location for those who prefer more of a small town living experience while enjoying easy access to the amenaties of larger cities. Eudora has a rich history, award winning schools, and welcoming sense of community.

The housing in Eudora, Kansas is predominately single family, however, there are some apartments, townhouses and homes with acreage.

Dining and Shopping

The downtown area of main street offers some unique locally owned shops and restraunts.Quilting Bits and Peices has been a long time favorite in downtown Eudora, Kansas. There is also a regional chain grocery store, convienence stores, and a Family Dollar store. Loacted just south of Kansas State Highway 10 is another retail area that offers Cutters Smokehouse, Freestate Guns and Tactical Weapons, and other retail and office space as well as Eudora Animal Hospital.

Entertainment

The Eudora Schools provide many excellent programs that are well supported by the community, and the just about the whole city turns out each fall for Eudora Cardinal Football. Cutter’s Smokehouse provide live music and the Eudora CPA Picnic is a well attended each summer. Eudora Parks and Recreation also hosts many events throughout the year.

Parks and Recreation

Eudora Parks and Recreation offers a full schedule of events as well as a health club facility, community room and a pool. The Parks and Recreation Department also holds an after school program during the school year to provide children with supervision and activities durng the week.
